Hoyoung Moon is a translator and editor based in Seoul. They translated the Korean edition of What About the Rest of Your Life by sung, and edited the novel Red Light, Shut Door, No Exit by Kim Bi among others. They are a regular contributor to chogwa, a quarterly e-zine featuring one Korean poem and multiple English translations.

한국문학 번역가. 신경숙, 황석영, 정보라, 박상영, 강경애 등의 저서를 번역해 여러 영미권 출판사를 통해 소개했다. 영어로 번역한 정보라의 『저주토끼』 와 박상영의 『대도시의 사랑법』이 2022 인터내셔널 부커상 후보에 동시에 올랐다. 이성복 시론집 『무한화서』가 미국에서 번역·출간될 예정이다. 오션 브엉의 시집 『총상 입은 밤하늘』이 그의 첫 영한 번역서이다.
인터뷰이 : 알차나 마드하반
인도에서 태어나고 미국에서 자라난 인도 계 미국인이며 한영 번역가 알차나 마드하반이라고 합니다. 본업으로는 교수 설계자 (instructional designer)로 일하는데, 원래부터 외국어, 언어학, 글쓰기에 대해 많은 관심을 가졌습니다. 십여년 전 한국 공포 영화를 보고 나서 한국어란 언어 자체가 궁금해져, 독학으로 공부 시작했습니다. 지금껏 내내 제가 어떻게 한국어 공부를 했는지에 대해 개인 블로그 <반짝반짝 한국어>에서 써 왔습니다.
2019년 오한기 작가의 <홍학이 된 사나이> 영어 번역판으로 등단하여 2020년 레진코믹스 SF, 판타지, 로맨스 웹툰 번역도 했습니다. 2022년 6월 김현 작가의 <글로리홀> 영어 번역도 출간되었습니다.
최근에는 저는 2022년 ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program (미국문학번역가협회 신인 번역가 멘토링 프로그램)의 한국 시 부문에 mentee로 선정되고 프로그램 진행하는 동안 이제니 시인 <아마도 아프리카>를 번역하고 있습니다.
인터뷰이 : 정새벽
I am a poet and literary translator. I primarily translate Korean poetry into English.
Prior to coming to Davidson, I taught creative writing at the University of Iowa and led Korean poetry translation workshop at the Literature Translation Institute of Korea. I am also a mentor for Korean poetry translation in the American Literary Translation Association's emerging translator program.
My translations of poetry and prose by a major Korean modernist poet Yi Sang (1910-1937) is published in Yi Sang: Selected Works edited by Don Mee Choi (Wave Books 2020). Besides contemporary American poetry and modern Korean poetry, I fell in love with the poetry of English Renaissance poetry in college, and my undergraduate thesis was on John Milton and his epic poem Paradise Lost.
At the same time, I am fascinated by world-building in speculative fiction, and I love digging into the lore behind great video game narratives. In writing poetry, I find myself exploring traditional forms, canonical texts, and fusing them with the avant-garde. Reading contemporary poetry, I am always exploring works that push the boundaries between literary genres.
When I teach writing, my goal is to recognize what my student is trying to achieve and help them see the ways that they can get there.

Soje is a poet and the translator of Lee Hyemi's Unexpected Vanilla (Tilted Axis Press, 2020), Choi Jin-young's To the Warm Horizon (Honford Star, 2021), and Lee Soho's Catcalling (Open Letter Books, 2021). They also make chogwa, an e-zine that features one Korean poem and multiple English translations per issue.
Soje graduated magna cum laude in English from the University of California, Berkeley, where they won the Dorothy Rosenberg Prize in Lyric Poetry. They served as Modern Poetry in Translation's 2020 Writer in Residence, were shortlisted for the 2021 National Translation Award in Poetry and the 2022 Sarah Maguire Prize for Poetry in Translation, and were longlisted for the 2022 PEN Award for Poetry in Translation.
After five years in Seoul, Soje now attends The New School as a Public Engagement Scholar and Teaching Fellow, on the unceded land of the Munsee Lenape people.

유년을 독일에서 보내고 뮌헨 대학교에서 철학과 문학을 공부했다. 육군사관학교 철학과 조교수로 근무했으며, 힐데스하임 대학교 철학과에서 박사 학위를 취득했다. 2012년 《시와 반시》 신인상을 수상했다. 옮긴 책으로 비트겐슈타인의 《전쟁 일기》, 니체의 《비극의 탄생》(공역), 노발리스의 《밤의 찬가/철학 파편집》, 트라클의 《몽상과 착란》이 있다.
